What Sets Our Allergy Treatments Apart

Allergy symptoms often look like chronic colds, lingering congestion, or frustrating fatigue. But at ExcelENT, we know they’re more than an inconvenience—they’re a medical issue that deserves expert attention. Unlike a standard allergy doctor, we take a dual approach that looks at both your environmental triggers and any underlying ENT issues that may be making things worse.

Dr. Christopher Davis starts every allergy care plan with a full sinus and nasal exam to rule out structural problems like polyps or chronic inflammation. This means your diagnosis and treatment are rooted in precision, not guesswork.

Pinpoint Your Triggers with Expert Allergy Testing

If your allergy test comes back positive, you’ll be offered immunotherapy, a clinically proven treatment that helps retrain your immune system over time. Instead of just masking symptoms, immunotherapy works at the source, reducing your sensitivity to allergens and minimizing your reactions long-term.

We offer two ways to receive treatment:

In-Office Allergy Shots

Administered under medical supervision, allergy shots are ideal for those who prefer a consistent, in-person care routine. Patients stay for a brief observation period after each injection to ensure safety.

At-Home Allergy Injections

After a short initial build-up phase in the office, you may be eligible to continue your injections at home. With check-ins every two months, this flexible option allows you to stay on track with your allergy care without disrupting your schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Allergy Treatment Questions, Answered

The choice between in-office allergy shots and at-home injections depends on your lifestyle, health needs, and personal preferences. Some patients feel more comfortable coming in regularly for their injections and monitoring, while others appreciate the flexibility of managing care from home.

During your consultation, Dr. Davis will discuss the pros and cons of each approach, including safety protocols, schedule demands, and your history with allergic reactions. Together, we’ll choose the option that gives you the best balance of results and convenience.

To ensure the accuracy of your allergy test, it’s important to stop taking certain medications, especially antihistamines, ahead of time. We typically ask that you stop oral antihistamines like Zyrtec, Claritin, Allegra, Benadryl, and their generic equivalents for at least 5 to 7 days before your appointment.

Some nasal sprays and sleep aids can also interfere with testing, so our team will provide a detailed list of what to pause based on your current medications. If you’re unsure about a specific product, we’re always here to guide you through what’s safe to continue and what should be temporarily held.

If you’re pregnant or nursing, we may delay the start of allergy immunotherapy out of an abundance of caution. While there’s no strong evidence that allergy shots are harmful during pregnancy, starting treatment during this time isn’t generally recommended because of the small risk of a reaction.

However, if you’re already on maintenance therapy, it may be safe to continue under close supervision. We’ll work with your OB/GYN to coordinate care and make the most informed decision for you and your baby’s health.

Most patients are able to continue their normal routines during allergy treatment, especially with at-home injections. You won’t need to restrict physical activity or take time off work, though we may advise you to wait about 30 minutes after an in-office shot before leaving, just for safety monitoring.

Over time, as your sensitivity to allergens decreases, many patients actually find they can do more—exercise outdoors, sleep better, or simply enjoy their day without worrying about flare-ups.

Missing a dose or appointment during immunotherapy isn’t uncommon, especially during busy seasons. If that happens, don’t worry, we’ll simply adjust your schedule or dosing to safely resume treatment.

The most important thing is to avoid stopping treatment for extended periods without letting us know, as it can reduce the long-term effectiveness of your results. Our team keeps detailed records and will guide you through how to get back on track without starting over.
