Christopher R. Walz MD
OtolaryngologistA Birmingham native, Dr. Chris Walz is honored to care for the ear, nose, and throat health needs of the community he grew up in. He earned his undergraduate degree from Auburn University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, before returning home to complete his medical degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, graduating Magna Cum Laude and earning induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He remained at UAB for his residency training in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. Walz provides comprehensive ENT care for both adults and children, with particular focus on sinus and nasal airway health, ear infections and hearing rehabilitation, allergy diagnosis and treatment, and disorders of the thyroid and salivary glands. He also cares for children with ear, tonsil, and adenoid conditions, and has completed advanced certification in hypoglossal nerve stimulator (Inspire®) implantation — an innovative surgical option for patients with sleep apnea who haven’t found success with CPAP therapy.
When he’s away from the office, Dr. Walz enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and their rambunctious Australian shepherd, Finley. He loves exploring Birmingham’s food and drink scene, spending time outdoors, and traveling both in the U.S. and abroad.

Stephanie Hill, RN, MSN, CRNP
I am an experienced Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner with over 12 years of specialized expertise in Otolaryngology. My career spans more than a decade at UAB and in private practice, focusing on inpatient and outpatient ENT care, particularly in rhinology, otology, and other head and neck disorders. My expertise enables me to provide exceptional care to patients with a wide range of ENT conditions. I hold both undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where I built a strong foundation in clinical care.
Joseph Powell, RN, MSN, CRNP
Board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in ENT. Earned a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from UAB, with diverse experience in emergency medicine, cardiac catheterization, and abdominal transplant, dedicated to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care in the private practice setting.
Janice Sullivan-Stoll MM, MS, CCC-SLP
Janice Sullivan-Stoll holds a Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Texas at Dallas and a Master’s Degree in Voice Performance from Florida State University.
